Patas Monkey (Erythrocebus patas)

The patas monkey is the fastest primate on Earth, running at speeds of up to 55 kilometers predator.Male’s patas monkeys are generally more brightly colored than female, with white on the backs of their hind legs and a white rump, which contrasts with their otherwise reddish and grey body colour. The male patas monkey also has a mane and very long white whiskers, and averages about twice the size of the female. Females are duller in colour and lack manes and long white whiskers

Habitat :

Open grassland and wooded savanna. West Africa, and into East Africa.

Food :

Leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, grasses, bird eggs, insects and lizards.

Current Status :

- IUCN red list : Least Concern (LC) (2008) - Appendix II of CITES

Reproductive :

A single young is born each year, after a gestation period of about 167 days and can live more than 20 years.

Size and weight :

They has a head to body length about 60-90 cm. Males weight 7-13 kg. Females weight 4-7 kg. Length tail 50-75 cm.
